BACKGROUND: Limited information is available on the effect of ideal cardiovascular health (CVH) and abnormal glucose metabolism in elderly people. We aimed to analyze the prevalence of CVH behaviors, abnormal glucose metabolism, and their correlation in 65 and older people. METHODS: In this study, randomized cluster sampling, multivariate logistic regression, and mediating effects analysis were used. Recruiting was carried out between January 2020 and December 2020, and 1984 participants aged 65 years or older completed the study. RESULTS: The prevalence of abnormal glucose metabolism in this group was 26.7% (n = 529), among which the prevalence of impaired fasting glucose (IFG) was 9.5% (male vs. female: 8.7% vs 10.1%, P = 0.338), and the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) was 19.0% (male vs. female: 17.8 vs. 19.8%, P = 0.256). The ideal CVH rate (number of ideal CVH metrics ≥ 5) was only 21.0%. The risk of IFG and T2DM decreased by 23% and 20% with each increase in one ideal CVH metrics, with OR (95%CI) of 0.77(0.65-0.92) and 0.80(0.71-0.90), respectively (P -trend < 0.001). TyG fully mediated the ideal CVH and the incidence of T2DM, and its mediating effect OR (95%CI) was 0.88(0.84-0.91). CONCLUSIONS: Each increase in an ideal CVH measure may effectively reduce the risk of abnormal glucose metabolism by more than 20%.

Lung cancer causes the most cancer deaths and needs new treatment strategies urgently. Salvia miltiorrhiza is a classical Chinese herb and a strong candidate for tumor treatment. The study found that the aqueous extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza (DSAE), ethanol extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza (DSEE), and its active components danshensu (DSS) and dihydrotanshinone I (DHI), exhibited antineoplastic effects in vivo and in vitro. Meanwhile, DSAE, DSEE, DSS, and DHI reduced glycolysis metabolites (ATP, lactate, and pyruvate contents) production, decreased aerobic glycolysis enzymes, and inhibited Seahorse indexes (OCR and ECAR) in Lewis lung cancer cells (LLC). Data suggests that aerobic glycolysis could be inhibited by Salvia miltiorrhiza and its components. The administration of DSS and DHI further reduced the level of HKII in lung cancer cell lines that had been inhibited with HK-II antagonists (2-deoxyglucose, 2-DG; 3-bromo-pyruvate, 3-BP) or knocked down with siRNA, thereby exerting an anti-lung cancer effect. Although DSS and DHI decreased the level of HKII in HKII-Knock-In lung cancer cell line, their anti-lung cancer efficacy remained limited due to the persistent overexpression of HKII in these cells. Reiterating the main points, we have discovered that the anti-lung cancer effects of Salvia miltiorrhiza may be attributed to its ability to regulate HKII expression levels, thereby inhibiting aerobic glycolysis. This study not only provides a new research paradigm for the treatment of cancer by Salvia miltiorrhiza, but also highlights the important link between glucose metabolism and the effect of Salvia Miltiorrhiza.

Background: Although screening is widely used to reduce cancer burden, untargeted cancers are frequently missed after single cancer screening. Joint cancer screening is presumed as a more effective strategy to reduce overall cancer burden. Methods: Gender-specific screening effects on PLCO cancer incidence, PLCO cancer mortality, all-neoplasms mortality and all-cause mortality were evaluated, and meta-analyses based on gender-specific screening effects were conducted to achieve the pooled effects. The cut-off value of time-dependent receiver-operating-characteristic curve of 10-year combined PLCO cancer risk was used to reclassify participants into low- and high-risk subgroups. Further analyses were conducted to investigate screening effects stratified by risk groups and screening compliance. Results: After a median follow-up of 10.48 years for incidence and 16.85 years for mortality, a total of 5,506 PLCO cancer cases, 1,845 PLCO cancer deaths, 3,970 all-neoplasms deaths, and 14,221 all-cause deaths were documented in the screening arm, while 6,261, 2,417, 5,091, and 18,516 outcome-specific events in the control arm. Joint cancer screening did not significantly reduce PLCO cancer incidence, but significantly reduced male-specific PLCO cancer mortality (hazard ratio and 95% confidence intervals [HR(95%CIs)]: 0.88(0.82, 0.95)) and pooled mortality [0.89(0.84, 0.95)]. More importantly, joint cancer screening significantly reduced both gender-specific all-neoplasm mortality [0.91(0.86, 0.96) for males, 0.91(0.85, 0.98) for females, and 0.91(0.87, 0.95) for meta-analyses] and all-cause mortality [0.90(0.88, 0.93) for male, 0.88(0.85, 0.92) for female, and 0.89(0.87, 0.91) for meta-analyses]. Further analyses showed decreased risks of all-neoplasm mortality was observed with good compliance [0.72(0.67, 0.77) for male and 0.72(0.65, 0.80) for female] and increased risks with poor compliance [1.61(1.40, 1.85) for male and 1.30(1.13, 1.40) for female]. Conclusion: Joint cancer screening could be recommended as a potentially strategy to reduce the overall cancer burden. More compliance, more benefits. However, organizing a joint cancer screening not only requires more ingenious design, but also needs more attentions to the potential harms. Neuroinflammation is one of the extensive secondary injury processes that aggravate metabolic and cellular dysfunction and tissue loss following spinal cord injury (SCI). Thus, an anti-inflammatory strategy is crucial for modulating structural and functional restoration during the stage of acute and chronic SCI. Recombinant fibroblast growth factor 4 (rFGF4) has eliminated its mitogenic activity and demonstrated a metabolic regulator for alleviating hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes and liver injury in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. However, it remains to be explored whether or not rFGF4 has a neuroprotective effect for restoring neurological disorders, such as SCI. Here, we identified that rFGF4 could polarize microglia/macrophages into the restorative M2 subtype, thus exerting an anti-inflammatory effect to promote neurological functional recovery and nerve fiber regeneration after SCI. Importantly, these effects by rFGF4 were related to triggering PI3K/AKT/GSK3ß and attenuating TLR4/NF-κB signaling axes. Conversely, gene silencing of the PI3K/AKT/GSK3ß signaling or pharmacological reactivation of the TLR4/NF-κB axis aggravated inflammatory reaction. Thus, our findings highlight rFGF4 as a potentially therapeutic regulator for repairing SCI, and its outstanding effect is associated with regulating macrophage/microglial polarization.

Background: Observational studies have shown that micronutrients can affect the occurrence of frailty. However, it is not clear whether there is a causal relationship between the two. This study aimed to explore the causal relationship between circulating micronutrient levels and frailty risk using a two-sample Mendelian randomization (TSMR) approach. Methods: We gathered and screened instrumental variables (IVs) for six circulating micronutrients, including vitamin B12, vitamin B6, folate, vitamin C, vitamin D, and vitamin E, from published genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and the IEU OpenGWAS open database. Summary statistics for frailty were obtained from a GWAS meta-analysis, including the UK Biobank and TwinGene (N = 175,226). We performed two independent TSMR analyses and a meta-analysis based on the two independent MR estimates to assess the causal relationship between circulating micronutrientn and frailty. Results: Our study found, no causal relationship between genetically predicted vitamin D (ß = -0.059, p = 0.35), vitamin B6 (ß = 0.006, p = 0.80), vitamin E (ß = -0.011, p = 0.79), vitamin C (ß = -0.044, p = 0.06), vitamin B12 (ß = -0.027, p = 0.37), and folate (ß = 0.029, p = 0.17), with frailty. Conclusion: This study showed that these six micronutrients did not reduce the risk of developing frailty. However, we think it is necessary further to investigate the relationship and mechanisms between micronutrients and frailty using methods such as randomized controlled trials.

Considering the shortcomings of known medical hemostatic materials such as bone wax for bleeding bone management, it is essential to develop alternative bone materials capable of efficient hemostasis and bone regeneration and adaptable to clinical surgical needs. Thus, in the current work, a calcium sulfate hemihydrate and starch-based composite paste was developed and optimized. Firstly, it was found that the use of hydroxypropyl distarch phosphate (HDP) coupled with pregelatinization could generate an injectable, malleable and self-hardening paste with impressive anti-collapse ability in a dynamic aqueous environment, suggesting its potential applicability in both open and minimally invasive clinical practice. The as-hardened matrix exhibited a compressive strength of up to 61.68 ± 5.13 MPa compared to calcium sulfate cement with a compressive strength of 15.16 ± 2.42 MPa, making it a promising candidate for the temporary mechanical stabilization of bone defects. Secondly, the as-prepared paste revealed superior hemostasis and bone regenerative capabilities compared to calcium sulfate cement and bone wax, with greatly enhanced bleeding management and bone healing outcomes when subjected to testing in in vitro and in vivo models. In summary, our results confirmed that calcium sulfate bone cement reinforced with the selected starch can act as a reliable platform for bleeding bone treatment, overcoming the limitations of traditional bone hemostatic agents.

Current understanding of the cerebral vascular response to variations in blood pressure (BP) among individuals with hypertension is limited. The aim of this meta-analysis was to determine the correlation between hypertension, risk of stroke, and cerebral blood flow (CBF). We reviewed studies published between 2000 and 2023 from PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct that compared mean CBF in normotensive and hypertensive patients. A random effects model was used to construct the risk ratio (RR), 95% confidence interval (CI), forest plot, and inverse variance weighting. Additionally, a mixed-effects meta-regression was employed to examine the impact of study-specific patient variables. This meta-analysis included eight prospective cross-sectional studies published from 2002 to 2023. It revealed a significant average difference in the standard mean CBF of -0.45 (95% CI -0.60 to -0.30, I2 = 69%, P < 0.00001), distinguishing normotensive from hypertensive subjects. A RR of 0.90 (95% CI 0.63 to 1.30, I2 = 89%, P = 0.04) indicated a significant decrease in CBF among individuals with hypertension. We found a statistically significant relationship between changes in diastolic and systolic BPs and the mean CBF (R = -0.81, P = 0.001 and R = -0.90, P = 0.005, respectively). Our research demonstrates a strong relationship between elevated BP and reduced CBF, with hypertension reducing CBF compared to normotensive individuals, by increasing cerebrovascular resistance.

Limited information is available on the cardiovascular health (CVH) index and risk of high-normal blood pressure (HNBP) in elderly people. Randomized cluster sampling, multivariate logistic regression, and mediating effects analysis were used in this study analyze the relationship between CVH index and HNBP in the elderly. 1089 non-hypertensive residents aged 65 years or older completed the study. The positive rate of HNBP was 75.85% (male vs. female: 76.13% vs. 75.64%, P = 0.852); The ideal rate of CVH (ideal CVH index ≥ 5 items) was 14.51% (male vs. female: 15.91% vs. 13.46%, P = 0.256). Compared with people with 0-2 ideal CVH index, the risk of HNBP in people with 4 ideal indexes and ≥ 5 ideal indexes decreased by 50% and 63%, respectively, and their OR (95% CI) were 0.50 (0.31, 0.81) and 0.37 (0.21, 0.66), respectively. The results of the trend test showed that the risk of HNBP decreased by 32% for every increase in the ideal CVH index (trend P < 0.001) and TyG index does not play a mediating role in this relationship. That is, increasing the number of ideal CVH index may effectively reduce the risk of HNBP in elderly by one-third.

Lysine crotonylation (Kcr) is a recently discovered histone acylation modification that is closely associated with gene expression, cell proliferation, and the maintenance of stem cell pluripotency and indicates the transcriptional activity of genes and the regulation of various biological processes. During cell culture, the introduction of exogenous croconic acid disodium salt (Nacr) has been shown to modulate intracellular Kcr levels. Although research on Kcr has increased, its role in cell growth and proliferation and its potential regulatory mechanisms remain unclear compared to those of histone methylation and acetylation. Our investigation demonstrated that the addition of 5 mM Nacr to cultured bovine fibroblasts increased the expression of genes associated with Kcr modification, ultimately promoting cell growth and stimulating cell proliferation. Somatic cell nuclear transfer of donor cells cultured in 5 mM Nacr resulted in 38.1% blastocyst development, which was significantly greater than that in the control group (25.2%). This research is important for elucidating the crotonylation modification mechanism in fibroblast proliferation to promote the efficacy of somatic cell nuclear transfer.

Recent developments in intelligent robot systems, especially autonomous vehicles, put forward higher requirements for safety and comfort. Road conditions are crucial factors affecting the comprehensive performance of ground vehicles. Nonetheless, existing environment perception datasets for autonomous driving lack attention to road surface areas. In this paper, we introduce the road surface reconstruction dataset, providing multi-modal, high-resolution, and high-precision data collected by real-vehicle platform in diverse driving conditions. It covers common road types containing approximately 16,000 pairs of stereo images, point clouds, and ground-truth depth/disparity maps, with accurate data processing pipelines to ensure its quality. Preliminary evaluations reveal the effectiveness of our dataset and the challenge of the task, underscoring substantial opportunities of it as a valuable resource for advancing computer vision techniques. The reconstructed road structure and texture contribute to the analysis and prediction of vehicle responses for motion planning and control systems.

Blood orange (BO) is a rare red-fleshed sweet orange (SWO) with a high anthocyanin content and is associated with numerous health-related benefits. Here, we reported a high-quality chromosome-scale genome assembly for Neixiu (NX) BO, reaching 336.63 Mb in length with contig and scaffold N50 values of 30.6 Mb. Furthermore, 96% of the assembled sequences were successfully anchored to 9 pseudo-chromosomes. The genome assembly also revealed the presence of 37.87% transposon elements and 7.64% tandem repeats, and the annotation of 30,395 protein-coding genes. A high level of genome synteny was observed between BO and SWO, further supporting their genetic similarity. The speciation event that gave rise to the Citrus species predated the duplication event found within them. The genome-wide variation between NX and SWO was also compared. This first high-quality BO genome will serve as a fundamental basis for future studies on functional genomics and genome evolution.

BACKGROUND: WOX genes are a class of plant-specific transcription factors. The WUSCHEL-related homeobox (WOX) family is a member of the homeobox transcription factor superfamily. Previous studies have shown that WOX members play important roles in plant growth and development. However, studies of the WOX gene family in blueberry plants have not been reported. RESULTS: In order to understand the biological function of the WOX gene family in blueberries, bioinformatics were used methods to identify WOX gene family members in the blueberry genome, and analyzed the basic physical and chemical properties, gene structure, gene motifs, promoter cis-acting elements, chromosome location, evolutionary relationships, expression pattern of these family members and predicted their functions. Finally, 12 genes containing the WOX domain were identified and found to be distributed on eight chromosomes. Phylogenetic tree analysis showed that the blueberry WOX gene family had three major branches: ancient branch, middle branch, and WUS branch. Blueberry WOX gene family protein sequences differ in amino acid number, molecular weight, isoelectric point and hydrophobicity. Predictive analysis of promoter cis-acting elements showed that the promoters of the VdWOX genes contained abundant light response, hormone, and stress response elements. The VdWOX genes were induced to express in both stems and leaves in response to salt and drought stress. CONCLUSIONS: Our results provided comprehensive characteristics of the WOX gene family and important clues for further exploration of its role in the growth, development and resistance to various stress in blueberry plants.

BACKGROUND: This systematic review aimed to examine whether dual-task (DT) training was superior to single-task (ST) training in improving DT walking, balance and cognitive function for individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD). METHODS: Literature search was performed in the following electronic databases: PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Metstr covering inception to May 10, 2023. And in order to facilitate comparison across trials, we calculated the effect size (Hedges' g) of gait, balance, cognitive, and other parameters under both ST and DT conditions, using the mean change score and standard deviation (SD) of change score of the experimental and control groups. Randomized controlled trials that examined the effects of DT motor and cognitive training in individuals with Parkinson's disease were included for this systematic review. RESULTS: A total of 335 participants recruited from six articles (five studies) were involved in this review. In terms of walking function, only double support time and stride time variability showed significant between-group difference (Hedges' g = 0.34, 0.18, respectively). Compared to ST training group, DT training group had a more improvement effect in laboratory balance measurement (Hedges' g = 0.18, 0.25), but no significant improvement in clinical balance measurement. No significant between-group differences were observed, thus its training effect on cognitive function was inconclusive. CONCLUSIONS: The DT training failed to achieve promising results better than ST training in improving DT walking and balance functions for individuals with PD. Any firm conclusion cannot be drawn at present, due to the limited number of eligible publications. Larger sample size and high-quality studies are needed to investigate the effectiveness of DT training in individuals with PD.

Background: Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI) is a reliable visceral obesity index, but the association between CVAI and risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains unclear. We explored the associations of CVAI with incident CVD, heart disease, and stroke and compared the predictive power of CVAI with other obesity indices based on a national cohort study. Methods: The present study included 7,439 participants aged ≥45 years from China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). Cox regression models were applied to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Restricted cubic splines analyses were adopted to model the dose-response associations. Receiver operator characteristic (ROC) analyses were used to compare the predictive ability of different obesity indices (CVAI, visceral adiposity index [VAI], a body shape index [ABSI], conicity index [CI], waist circumference [WC], and body mass index [BMI]). Results: During 7 years' follow-up, 1,326 incident CVD, 1,032 incident heart disease, and 399 stroke cases were identified. The HRs (95% CI) of CVD, heart disease, and stroke were 1.50 (1.25-1.79), 1.29 (1.05-1.57), and 2.45 (1.74-3.45) for quartile 4 versus quartile 1 in CVAI. Linear associations of CVAI with CVD, heart disease, and stroke were observed (P nonlinear >0.05) and per-standard deviation (SD) increase was associated with 17% (HR 1.17, 1.10-1.24), 12% (1.12, 1.04-1.20), and 31% (1.31, 1.18-1.46) increased risk, respectively. Per-SD increase in CVAI conferred higher risk in participants aged<60 years than those aged ≥60 years (P interaction<0.05). ROC analyses showed that CVAI had higher predictive value than other obesity indices (P<0.05). Conclusions: CVAI was linearly associated with risk of CVD, heart disease, and stroke and had best performance for predicting incident CVD. Our findings indicate CVAI as a reliable and applicable obesity index to identify higher risk of CVD.

Osteoporosis (OP) is a common complication of postmenopausal women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Herein, the objective of our study was to explore the correlation between serum matrix metalloproteinase 3 (MMP3) and OP among postmenopausal women with RA to foster better diagnosis and treatment. A total of 208 elderly postmenopausal women with RA were included in this study, with 83 patients diagnosed with OP after RA diagnosis and 125 patients without OP. Serum MMP3 levels and bone mineral density (BMD) were measured and compared. The predictive value of serum MMP3 for OP in this population was also analyzed using receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis. Postmenopausal women with RA and OP diagnosis had markedly higher serum MMP3 levels, compared to those without OP. ROC analysis showed that serum MMP3 had predictive value for OP. Additionally, a negative correlation was observed between serum MMP3 levels and BMD. High serum MMP3 levels were also found to be associated with high abnormal bone metabolism. We found that serum MMP3 levels are strongly correlated with OP in postmenopausal women with RA and that elevated levels of serum MMP3 are linked to low BMD and high abnormal bone metabolism. Serum MMP3 may be a useful biomarker for predicting OP in this population, and could potentially aid in the development of targeted prevention and treatment strategies.

Background: Lung cancer is one of the most dangerous cancers in the world. Most lung cancer patients are diagnosed in the middle and later stages, which can lead to poor survival rates. The development of lung cancer is often accompanied by abnormal expression of exosomal non-coding RNAs, which means that they have the potential to serve as noninvasive novel molecular markers for lung cancer diagnosis. Methods: For this study, we conducted a comprehensive literature search in PubMed, Web of science, Science direct, Embase, Cochrane, and Medline databases, and by reviewing published literature, The diagnostic capacity of exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs), long-chain non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), and circular RNAs (circRNAs) for lung cancer was evaluated. Functional enrichment analysis of miRNA target genes was performed. Results: The study included 41 papers, a total of 68 studies. More than 60 miRNAs, 9 lncRNAs and 14 circRNAs were involved. The combined sensitivity and specificity were 0.83(95%CI, 0.80~0.86) and 0.83(95% CI,0.79~0.87); 0.71(95% CI,0.68~0.74) and 0.79(95%CI, 0.75~0.82); 0.79(95%CI,0.67~0.87) and 0.81(95%CI,0.74~0.86), and constructed overall subject operating characteristic curves with the summarized area under the curve values of 0.90, 0.82, and 0.86. Conclusion: Our study shows that exosomes miRNAs, lncRNAs and circRNAs are effective in the diagnosis of lung cancer, providing evidence for studies related to novel lung cancer diagnostic markers. The prevalence of chronic wounds (CW) continues to grow. A thorough knowledge of the mechanism of CW formation remains elusive due to a lack of relevant studies. Furthermore, most previous studies concentrated on diabetic ulcers with relatively few investigations on other types. We performed this multiomics study to investigate the proteomic and metabolomic changes in wound and surrounding tissue from a cohort containing 13 patients with nondiabetic CW. Differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) and metabolites (DEMs) were filtered out and analyzed through multiomic profiling. The DEPs were further confirmed with the use of parallel reaction monitoring. Compared with the surrounding tissue, there were 82 proteins and 214 metabolites altered significantly in wound tissue. The DEPs were mainly enriched in focal adhesion (FA), extracellular matrix-receptor interaction (ERI), and the PI3K-Akt (PA) signaling pathway. Moreover, the DEMs were significantly enriched in amino sugar and nucleotide sugar metabolism and biosynthesis of nucleotide sugar pathways. In correlation analysis, we discovered that the PA signaling pathway, as well as its upstream and downstream pathways, coenriched some DEPs and DEMs. Additionally, we found that FBLN1, FBLN5, and EFEMP1 (FBLN3) proteins dramatically elevated in wound tissue and connected with the above signaling pathways. This multiomics study found that changes in FA, ERI, and PA signaling pathways had an impact on the cellular activities and functions of wound tissue cells. Additionally, increased expression of those proteins in wound tissue may inhibit vascular and skin cell proliferation and degrade the extracellular matrix, which may be one of the causes of CW formation.

Background: COVID-19 sequelae are long-term symptoms of COVID-19. Cardiovascular disease is not only a risk factor for the occurrence of COVID-19 sequelae but also a potential result directly or indirectly caused by COVID-19 infection. Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the cardiovascular system-related symptoms of outpatients and inpatients of the Cardiovascular Department of the Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine after recovery from novel coronavirus infection, analyze the influencing factors, and symptom characteristics of related symptoms, and thereby provide a basis for further formulating a reasonable diagnosis and treatment plan. Materials and methods: From January 15, 2023 to February 15, 2023, 452 recovered patients with novel coronavirus infection who were admitted to the Cardiovascular Department of the Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine due to symptoms of the cardiovascular system (complaints of chest pain and palpitations) were involved in this study. A unified questionnaire was used to record the general information, past medical history, characteristics of chest pain or palpitations, and other COVID-19-related sequelae of the selected patients. All data were statistically analyzed by SPSS 26.0 statistical software. Results: A total of 226 patients with cardiovascular symptoms and 226 patients without cardiovascular symptoms were included in this study. After univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis, women (OR 2.081, 95% CI = 1.358-3.189) and young people (OR 2.557, 95% CI = 1.44-4.54) had a higher risk of cardiovascular symptoms; prehypertension (OR 1.905, 95% CI = 1.091-3.329) and hypertension (OR 2.287, 95% CI = 1.433-3.649) increased the risk of cardiovascular symptoms; patients with history of previous cardiovascular disease (OR 1.862, 95% CI = 1.16-2.988) and history of diabetes (OR 2.138, 95% CI = 1.058-4.319) had a higher risk of developing cardiovascular symptoms. The main symptoms related to COVID-19 sequelae reported by all 452 patients were fatigue (76.8%), shortness of breath (54.2%), dry mouth and bitter mouth (46.0%), gastrointestinal symptoms (42.7%), sleep disturbances (37.4%), sweating (31.9%), chills (29%), dizziness (25.7%), confusion of brain fog (25.2%), and tinnitus (14.6%). Compared with patients without cardiovascular symptoms, patients with cardiovascular symptoms were more likely to have shortness of breath (OR 3.521, 95% CI = 2.226-5.472), gastrointestinal symptoms (OR 2.039, 95% CI = 1.226-3.393), and dry mouth and bitter mouth (OR 1.918, 95% CI = 1.229-2.992). The differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion: In this new coronavirus infection, women, young people, the elderly, people with prehypertension, hypertension, and patients with a history of cardiovascular disease and diabetes have a higher risk of developing cardiovascular symptoms, and patients with cardiovascular symptoms are more likely to develop other COVID-19 sequelae.

BACKGROUND: In December 2022, the epidemic prevention and control policy was upgraded and China came to a different stage of epidemic control. There have been no studies from the perspective of infection prevention and control practitioners (HIPCP) about the historic surge. OBJECTIVE: To understand the needs of the healthcare system during the epidemic and to identify implications for better healthcare supply and infection control in the future. METHODS: A longitudinal quantitative and qualitative study was performed based on two comprehensive questionnaire surveys among 497 HIPCPs before and during the epidemic peak in Tianjin, China. RESULTS: The workload (8.2 hours vs 10.14 hours, P = 0) and self-reported mental health problems (23.5% vs. 61.8%, P < 0.05) among the HIPCPs increased significantly in the peak period. Ward reconstruction and resource coordination were the most needed jobs in hospital infection control, and rapidly increased medical waste during the epidemic needs to be considered in advance. Community support for healthcare personnel and their families, maintaining full PPE to reduce simultaneous infection of medical staff, and clinical training of infectious diseases for medical staff, especially doctors in advance are the most important things we learned. CONCLUSION: Although it has been four years since the first outbreak of COVID-19, more improvements should be made to prepare for the next wave of COVID-19 or other diseases.
